This session examines when students should work individually and when collaborative learning provides greater benefits. Participants explore the important distinction between collaborative learning and traditional group work, recognising that true collaboration requires students to take responsibility for both their own learning and the learning of others.
The session discusses why collaborative learning can deepen understanding through discussion, explanation and shared thinking, while also recognising that conventional group work has more limited value unless carefully structured and purposeful.
By the end of the session, teachers will understand how to select the most appropriate learning approach for different teaching situations and design genuinely effective collaborative learning experiences.
